I kind of wonder if the entire price difference is just due to difference in brand prestige, and I don't care nearly enough about brand to pay like three times the price for a Rolex. The SBDX017 came only a few years ago and brought diashield as well as improved manufacturing processes (something they call MEMS). I personally feel the SBDX017 is the very peak of this spectacular model, and is an absolutely beautiful example of what the higher end of Seiko is capable of.
